This year Discovery Children’s Centre has teamed with Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba to provide Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) services to preschool aged children. Louise Stuart (SLP from the St. James-Assiniboia School Division) has been hired to work closely with both staff and children at the Centre. As a part of this service Mrs. Stuart will be meeting with Nursery and Preschool children and reviewing their speech and language development to identify children who may benefit from additional support in these areas. Parents of identified children will be contacted following the screening. If you have concerns regarding your child’s speech or language skills you are encouraged to talk with your child’s teachers and they will request to have Mrs. Stuart spend some time in the classroom observing your child.
Mrs. Stuart will be working at Discovery one half day per week. For specific dates, watch for the large SLP poster, which will be posted outside of the classrooms or talk with your child’s classroom teachers.
A very special thank you goes out to Variety, the Children’s Charity of Manitoba because without their support, this year Discovery Children’s Centre was facing a very difficult decision to end this program. With their financial support we are happy to announce the services provided by an SLP will continue for the 2018-2019 school year. Children develop their communication skills at different rates. Having the support in their early years is vital; early intervention.
