Family Fun Day At Discovery Children’s Centre

On June 7th Discovery Children’s Centre held its annual Family Fun Day. We estimated approximately 500 people showed up this year. And we even had a special visit from our MLA, Adrien Sala.  A fun time was had by all that attended, we really needed this after two years of COVID.

The staff created a lot of fun games for the penny carnival. For participating in the games, the children received a special treat. The line ups to get into the bouncers were not as long as those at Disney World, but children certainly practiced the virtue of patience to get a turn to bounce around in them.  The Fire Safety House was available for children to learn and practice what best to do in case of a fire. For those children and families looking for some less active activities, we also had a book share table.

This year there was a donation jar for the food, thank you everyone for your incredibly generous donations that covered the cost of all the food and even for some of the entertainment. Thank you also to the Real Canadian Wholesale Club for donation of some of the food and to Grant Wray (our milkman) who for many years has provided a small freezer full of ice cream treats for this event.

Congratulations to SHAWNA BRAZEAU for winning $191.50 for the 50/50 draw.

An event like this is just not possible without the help from a lot of people. Special thanks go out to the volunteers from the West End Christian Community congregation, who provided several volunteers including the balloon makers, the face (arm painters), the food prep and servers, the books for the book sharing table and more. Also, thank you to all of Discovery staff for their energy and enthusiasm in preparing for the event and the clean up. And finally, thank you to all of Discovery’s Board members that were able to volunteer at the event.  Our dedicated Board members are called upon frequently throughout the year to attend Board meetings and work on projects for the Centre. This was one of those well-worth- it events that many of our Board members also helped with.
